A retail operation was then developed to take the business to the high street. The first Eggfree Cake Box shop was opened in July 2008 in East London and in May 2009 the first franchised outlet opened in Ilford,
Essex. Since then 6 new locations have been added. (Bow, Walthamstow, Slough, Harrow, Welling & Gravesend & Leicester) Negotiations are in advance stages for a further 4 new sites which the owners hope will be trading by November 2011. The company is on track for 14 stores by the end of 2011 and hopes to open a further 16 new stores in 2012 bringing the total number of Cake Box’s to 30.
Founder & CEO Sukh Chamdal says: “At The Eggfree Cake Box we make delicious, individually-crafted celebration fresh cream cakes in-store and on demand for everybody, even individuals on a lacto-vegetarian or egg-free diet for personal reasons or because of an allergy.
“The great thing about our service is that you don’t have to pre-order or wait too long for a personalised cake. In fact, the average waiting time is around 20 minutes. We also have a range of cake slices for immediate take-out and can make wedding cakes in as little as 24 hours”.
