Michael comes from humble beginnings. Raised in a large family, comprising of 6 sisters and 3 brothers and grew up in a terraced house just off of Lewisham High Street. He left school at 17 and decided to go travelling, headed off to the United States and Australia to explore the world and all its wonders and opportunities.
It was in the in the States as a 22 year old, that he enrolled with a flying school and obtained his private pilots licence. This love for flying led him to embark on a course of study in Aerodrome Control and Approach Procedures.
At 25, Michael started his entrepreneurial journey in selling and took a job marketing international courier services which propelled him to start up his own business and successfully ran his one man and van removal service. In 2002 Michael pioneered ‘Easycrane’ the ‘office supplies people’ operating on his own, from a bedroom at the back of his house.
Although a great deal has changed since then, in terms of size and structure, much has remained the same: a determination and commitment to provide the best quality office supplies at the best price with the highest levels of customer service. It was these foundations upon which Michael was able to establish Easycrane and expand it to where it is today: at the forefront of high quality, value for money, office suppliers.
As its name spread, along with its reputation for honest, reliable service Michael re-located the business to Lee in South London and recruited additional staff to assist with the ever-expanding workload. It didn’t take long before the levels of growth dictated the need for a further relocation and today Crane is based in The Royal Arsenal, London and in Innovation House in Sandwich, Kent.
Gone are the days when Michael took the orders, delivered the orders and cleaned the van upon his return. Although this was the valuable education he learnt in the importance of providing good quality customer service. Easycrane now consists of a highly dedicated sales and customer service team, accounts payable, credit control, HR, training and a franchise team.
The future looks very promising and Michael is busy strategizing the growth over the next 5-10 years. He believes Easycrane is in prime position to multiply the efforts through Franchising. He has made the mistakes, learnt valuable and painful lessons over the past 15 years so others don’t have to. Michael believes that high quality franchisees will better serve Easycrane purposes and attract highly motivated and capable individuals who through their franchise investment will have a real appetite and passion to make a success of their business.
“If only I knew then what I know now”
When Michael founded the company in December 2002, he started with no money, an old telephone, a wobbly desk and a tiny selection of products. But what he lacked in collateral he amassed in vision and hustle, and the rest as they say is ’His-story’.
