The Health & Fitness Industry

The health and fitness industry has seen exponential growth over the past few years with more people investing in their health and adapting their lifestyles. With the host of benefits that it offers, it’s no wonder that gyms and activity centres are thriving.

The statistics show how popular gyms have become; according to Statista, there are over 7,000 health and fitness clubs in the UK, with over 10 million people holding gym memberships. Furthermore, the revenue for the health club industry totals 5.6 billion GBP each year with a 2 billion annual turnover from fitness centres in the UK.

UK Parliament, The House of Commons Library report that, according to the Health Survey for the UK in 2019, 36.2% of adults are overweight and 28.0% are obese. This means that it is more important than ever that the Health and Fitness industry continues to thrive. Providing individuals with the right equipment and services can help us to tackle the obesity crisis and help reduce the risk of health issues. 150 minutes of exercise a week can help to maintain your current weight, while to lose weight you may need to engage in a lot more physical activity unless you also reduce your calorie intake and eat healthier. You should see your doctor before starting any exercise or weight loss programmes, but there are resources online that can help you to calculate your current calorie intake and what kind of deficit you might need to lose weight.

Perhaps one of the most widely recognised benefits of exercise outside of weight loss and health is that it is a natural mood booster and can aid with your mental health. According to Mind, 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some variety each year in the UK. Priory also reports that almost 46 million adults have experienced some symptom of common mental health problems in any given week. These statistics highlight the mental health crisis we are facing in the UK. Those who may be unable to afford therapy or access other resources, such as doctors and prescriptions, may find that engaging in physical activity can have a very positive impact on their life. It may boost their mood and help lessen the symptoms of some mental health issues.

Overall, the Health and Fitness industry is thriving and is arguably needed now more than ever. The rising popularity of getting fit and taking care of yourself is set to continue into the future. Perhaps then it might be worth considering investing in the industry and getting your foot in the door.
