Fly tipping isn’t just an eyesore — it’s becoming a highly organised criminal enterprise that’s damaging communities, harming the environment, and costing the UK millions. When I appeared on BBC News recently to discuss the surge in large-scale illegal dumping, I made one point very clear: enforcement alone won’t fix this. After more than 15 years in the waste industry, I’ve seen exactly where the system is failing, and how we can put it right.

My BBC interview was an opportunity to highlight what many in the sector already know: the current regulatory framework makes it far too easy for rogue operators to enter the industry with no real oversight. The Environment Agency is doing what it can; deploying drones, CCTV, and digital tracking, but without an apparent structural reform. Essentially, my concern is that we’re only treating the symptoms, not the root cause.
